OLLI 1075 - Climate Change at the Poles Lecture
Course Description
The polar regions are among the most sensitive parts of the world to the effects of climate change, but they also provide one of the best opportunities to study why and how climate change is happening. This talk will explore both the causes and impacts of climate change from a polar perspective. Liam will begin by discussing how polar research helps us understand the fundamental origins and dynamics of climate change, including how polar ice cores reveal the role of greenhouse gases in shaping global climate. He will also share examples from his own research on polar ice cores. The talk will then turn to how polar regions are changing today, including the impacts on polar ecosystems and human communities, and how changes at the poles affect life here in Seattle through processes like sea level rise.
This Zoom Community Lecture is open to anyone.
