OLLI 0588 - Writing Your Personal Essay
Course Description
Stories connect humans. Personal essays can help us make meaning of our lives and shift our perspectives. The personal essay has power: it can teach us, make us laugh, and help us feel less alone. In this two session course, students will learn the basic elements of writing a personal essay, including structure, form, and turning an idea into an extended piece. As well, students will begin to identify the beating heart of their story, find what they have come to say, and learn how to offer their incredible wisdom to an audience.
During our time together, we’ll read and discuss personal essays, write to small prompts, and share our insights. Students will learn more about the personal essay and identify potential ideas for their next piece. They will leave with confidence to share their important stories with the world.
This class meets online over Zoom. Class recordings will be available.
