Course Description

Every year, as the Earth slowly tilts North America away from the Sun, the birds in the Far North begin to get agitated. Shortening days and colder temperatures are telling the birds it's time to get moving. Head south! their bodies say, and so they do, by the billions. Come along with master birder Connie Sidles as she presents the latest data and theories on how migration works. She then describes the turning of the season from the birds' point of view, from the earliest migrants in late June to the latest stragglers in November. In this three-part class, you'll see how birds prepare for their marathon flights and what challenges they face along the way. Together, these topics offer an engaging introduction to fall birdlife and the dynamic relationships between birds, place, and season.

This class meets online over Zoom. Class recordings will be available.
